1.23 - A Wedding of Friends
“Today’s your big day,” Charlie sighed, adjusting Travis’s bowtie.
“Our little boy, all grown up,” Catherine sniffled.
“Stop it guys,” Travis moaned. “You’re going to make me cry.”
“I’m sorry your father couldn’t make it,” Charlie said as she fixed a stray hair that had come free. “I may not like the man but you definitely deserve to have your father there the day of your wedding.”
“I haven’t seen that man since I was five,” Travis shrugged. “I don’t mind. And at least I’m not in Liberty’s position, her parents extended their cruise for the hundredth time and don’t want to end it early by flying out here.”
“Poor girl…” Catherine whispered. “She must be devastated, I’m going to go and talk to her, let her know that I can walk her down the aisle if she wishes-“
“Liberty’s strong, she can handle this,” Travis reassured her.
“I’m still going to see her anyway,” Catherine said, pushing open the door and leaving the dressing room.
“Your mother has always been so damn headstrong,” Charlie laughed.
“Oh, definitely,” Travis smiled.
Catherine walked down the hall to Liberty’s dressing room, her heels clicking against the tile floor. Without even bothering to knock, she threw open the door to Liberty’s dressing room, and rushed in to embrace her.
“Uh. Catherine?” Liberty asked, her voice muffled by Catherine’s hug.
“I just heard about your parents from Travis and I had to come and see you. Are you okay, sweetie? Do you need anything from me? I’ll walk you down the aisle if you’d like that-“
“Catherine, Catherine, no, it’s all okay. Giovanna’s got that, I may be the one she failed to adopt but she’s still like a mother to us all.”
“Yoohooooo!” Giovanna called out from the corner of the room, waving at Catherine.
“You scared me, Giovanna!” Catherine gasped.
Catherine and Charlie still weren’t all that fond of Giovanna. Even though the woman clearly wasn’t mentally stable, she’d still found a way to take their son away from them. Catherine had known it’d be impossible to combat someone of Giovanna’s mental state in court when she’d literally made the mistake of signing away rights to Travis to her. She blamed herself for that every day, but part of her faulted Giovanna for even dreaming of attempting to take her son away from them even in her mental state.
Giovanna laughed and struck a dramatic pose. “I always scare people!”
Charlie showed up in the doorway a second later. “Catherine, Travis, he-“ she stopped when she saw Giovanna. “Oh. Hey Giovanna.”
Giovanna placed her hands over her heart. “Oh! It’s like… we’re three mothers! We’ll officially be three mothers together after this wedding!”
Charlie frowned. “Uh, Giovanna… I don’t think…”
Liberty walked over and looked Charlie in the eyes. “Sshh. Let her have this moment, okay? She deserves it.”
Charlie looked into Liberty’s eye and saw the love and respect she had for Giovanna, and she nodded. Catherine looked to Charlie for confirmation, then she nodded too.
“Granny?” Liberty called out. “I’m going to walk them back to Travis, don’t go anywhere, okay?”
Giovanna stood up. “But… but the groom can’t see the bride before the wedding!”
Liberty walked back over to Giovanna and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, Granny. I won’t actually go into Travis’s room.”
That seemed to satisfy Giovanna, as she smiled vacantly and sat back down.
“Walk with me,” Liberty said to Charlie and Catherine.
They followed her out of the room, and Liberty started walking down the hallway, talking quickly.
“I’m sure you’ve gotten the gist of it by now, but Giovanna’s been through a lot. When Travis, Summer, and I first moved in, we found her trapped in Zoe’s basement losing her mind. She’d been missing for months beforehand, but none of us thought to worry because Giovanna had always been a bit eccentric and it made sense that she’d vanish. We found her too late, her mind was already gone. Jo tried her best to find justice for Giovanna and ultimately failed, and Summer got her twisted sense of revenge on Zoe by screwing with her mental state too… but regardless, all of us, even Summer, respect Giovanna completely. She deserves the world. And if I can give her one day of joy, even if it’s my own wedding, she deserves it.”
Liberty stopped outside the room Travis was in, and turned around to face Charlie and Catherine. “Please. Talk to Travis about it.”
“Liberty? Is that you?” Travis asked, opening the door.
“Travis!” Charlie and Catherine screamed. “The wedding dress!”
Liberty waved them off. “It’s fine, I don’t care for outdated misogynist traditions anyway. Giovanna won’t know.”
Charlie nodded with a smile on her face. “That’s what I like to hear.”
“Liberty was talking to us about Giovanna and wanted us to ask you about her,” Catherine said, looking Travis right in the eyes.
Travis looked to Liberty for reassurance, then started speaking. “Honestly? I’d die for her. I know you guys don’t want to hear that! But I would. I’m sure Liberty already told you all the details about what happened and everything, but what’s the harm in me having a third mom, right?”
“You know what? You’re completely correct, Travis,” Catherine smiled. She opened up her arms, and Travis fell into her hug. “You’d better hurry back before Giovanna starts worrying, dear,” she said to Liberty.
“Right,” Liberty said, picking up the hem of her dress and running down the hallway.
The wedding was held in a park that’d been next to Zoe’s house for the longest time, slowly decaying, but she’d recently purchased it from the government and refurbished it for the purpose of Liberty and Travis’s wedding. Plus, purchasing the park next door made her house less visible to prying eyes looking to catch a glimpse of the famous Zoe Presley.
It was a small, private affair. Zoe, Jo, Summer, Beatrice, and José sat in the chairs facing the arch, the only five attendees not directly involved in the ceremony. Liberty’s parents evidently didn’t want to bother, both Summer’s dad and mom called her separately to laugh at her for loosing the man of her dreams before telling her they weren’t coming, and no one cared enough to invite Zoe’s parents.
Charlie and Catherine walked Travis down the aisle, tears in their eyes.
Liberty followed next, Giovanna practically skipping ahead of her, throwing flowers in the air as they’d allowed her to be the flower girl as well.
Travis and Liberty smiled at each other awkwardly as Charlie and Catherine nodded respectfully to Giovanna from across the altar.
“Liberty, I’m so glad that school brought us together. While sure, Summer was telling everyone that we were dating at the time, the girl who bullied every nerd except for me, you still thought to talk to me and helped me realize that I needed someone who actually cared about what I was interested in and could share in that. No offense, Summer.”
Summer waved a wine glass from her chair, rolling her eyes.
“You thought to pursue me all the way until graduation, even choosing to move in with Summer and I even despite how cruel she was to you. You helped me see that what I care about and how I am worth something without pretending to be someone I'm not, and I am so happy to be marrying my best friend.”
Liberty smiled, and Catherine, Charlie, and Giovanna all wiped tears from their eyes.
“Jeez, Travis, how do you expect me to follow that?” Liberty laughed. “I’m no master of speaking, that’s for sure. But, uh, Travis… I love you. More than anything. Like you said, I wouldn’t have endured Summer and pursued you for so many years if I didn’t. I’m just… I’m so grateful that I finally mean as much to you as you always meant to me.”
Travis and Liberty kissed, and even Summer was moved to tears.
Later, once the sun had completely set, the afterparty finally started to wind down. Summer, who’d been mixing drinks the whole time, sighed dramatically. “You know what José? I do this for myself on my own all the time. Maybe I should just make a career out of my problems.”
“Maybe so,” José grinned. “I’m just glad you’re not as much of a bitch as it sounded like you were in high school.”
Summer rolled her eyes. “What blonde, white, popular, cheerleader type girl isn’t a bitch in high school?”
Across the park, Catherine and Charlie approached Giovanna.
“We just want to say…” Catherine began.
“…that we’re sorry for ever doubting you as an individual or a mother for Travis,” Charlie finished.
Giovanna waved it off. “Tea?” she asked, holding up an acorn shell she’d filled with wine and some bits of grass and leaves.
Charlie and Catherine politely declined.
“You know? I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than tonight,” Liberty admitted to Travis as they laid on the ground, looking up at the stars.
“And I couldn’t be happier than hearing you say that,” Travis smiled.
I did modify the park quite a bit, but I'd like to thank the original creator! I downloaded this park way back when I first started playing the Sims 4 with my sister, and I wish I could find it again. But, all the same, thank you for providing a basis for this beautiful park.
