Mai Legacy
1.13 - The Fengs' Plan
“I just don’t understand,” Susan sobbed. “Who would be awful enough to do this? Clara was found dead, my babies just aren't babies anymore, I-I-"
“We’re doing everything we can, m’am,” the cop reassured her.
James and Susan had gotten home at around 1 in the morning and found two fully grown children and Aarohi tied up and terrified in the smallest bathroom. They'd immediately called the police. By 5 in the morning, the whole island was swarming with them.
“For the last time, I was asleep and then the next thing I know I’m blindfolded and tied up on the floor of some room! I wasn’t able to catch any faces…” Aarohi muttered to the same cop.
"I... I just really need to process this... cry... do something!" Susan went on. Covering her face to hide more tears, Susan fled the table.
There was an awkward pause.
“I’d say the Le Chiens, but they’re not witches,” James sniffled.
Susan, desperate for help, ended up texting everyone. The Fengs, Salim, Ulrike, and Eliza, all of who were for some reason still awake that early in the morning, had come to comfort Susan and James.
Everyone there decided that they needed to come up with some sort of plan to help James and Susan.
“Aarohi, come over here,” Lily said, offering a hand to her.
Lily pulled Aarohi up, and the two walked over to the rest of James and Susan’s friends.
“This has to be the Le Chiens. There’s no other way,” Salim was saying.
“They’re an established legacy family, not witches, Salim. Stop being so ridiculous,” Eliza snapped.
"What are you even doing here anyway, Eliza?" Ulrike asked. "Don't you have a husband and kids back in Willow Creek?"
"They just get so tiring to deal with," Eliza sighed. "You wouldn't understand, Ulrike. You've been single for how long now? Give or take 30 years?"
“Everyone just shut up..." Aarohi sniffled. "Going off what Eliza said originally... Hajar was roommates with a witch in college. I was in the room across the hall, and after all the noises I heard, I feel like she has some knowledge..."
Ulrike gave Eliza a look, shutting her up.
“And we’re not telling this to the cops, because…?” Salim asked.
“Don’t trust the cops with things. Lily and I… many bad experiences,” Victor said.
“Why don’t we just go and confront them, then? Them being the Le Chiens. Threaten to turn them in and everything?” Eliza asked.
“I like that kind of thinking,” Lily smiled. "Wasting hours talking will never beat actually doing something."
Aarohi shook her head and backed away. “You guys go do that, okay? Personally, I’m excited to stay home and sleep for like a week straight. You guys do your thing though, I guess.”
They all watched as Aarohi walked back over to the table James was still crying at.
“So. The direct approach. What exactly are we talking here?” Ulrike asked.
Lily thought for a moment, then spoke. “We all know about the significance of the armor a legacy family owns, correct?”
"Please, educate me," Ulrike said.
“To sum it up: without it, no legacy. Entirely significant,” Victor said simply.
“What are you suggesting here?” Salim asked nervously.
“It's simple," Lily smiled. "We take it. Then, the Le Chiens and their legacy are over. Forever. If someone in their next generation wants to start one, they’re welcome, but otherwise, Joaquin will never be a heir.”
“That sounds pretty illegal,” Ulrike muttered.
“Illegal, and also cruel. You guys do whatever you want, but I'm not taking any part in that,” Salim said, putting up his hands defensively.
“Yeah, I’m with Salim here. Whatever you guys decide to do... please don't let us know. I'd rather not know,” Ulrike said.
Salim nodded his agreement, then the two of them turned around and headed back towards the front porch of James's house.
“Looks like it’s just the three of us then!” Eliza grinned. “Let’s go.”
The three of them approached the Le Chien house, which was completely silent.
“The statue should be sitting in the first room,” Victor said.
“And you know that how?” Eliza asked.
“All of us affluent members of society have been to each other’s homes once or twice.” Lily explained. "And lately, the Le Chiens have been incredibly disappointing. None of us will miss them."
Lily then took off her heel and used it to break the lock. She opened the door, and gestured towards Eliza and Victor. “After you.”
“Is that it?” Eliza asked, pointing. “James and Susan have one just like it.”
Victor nodded.
“Any respectable legacy family would have a series of alarms set around their armor,” Lily muttered, looking carefully.
Eliza reached into her purse and pulled out a ray gun. She aimed it at the statue, and there was the distinctive sound of something shutting down.
“What is that?” Lily asked, shocked. "I feel like you definitely shouldn't have one. Where'd you-?"
“Bob sets alarms around his food so I'd stop taking it away from him, so I had to find an object that could shut down alarms. And I can't reveal my supplier,” Eliza shrugged. “Anyways, let’s take care of this, shall we?”
The three of them carefully lifted up the armor, then when no alarms went off, carried it out the front door.
“What now?” Eliza asked breathlessly.
“We throw it into the ocean. Simple,” Victor said. "They'll never find it."
Lily and Eliza nodded and the three of them stood there as the statue sank under the waves. They’d just destroyed a legacy.
