Mai Legacy
1.15 - Jealousy
Leah and Seth’s childhood flew by in a flash. Far too fast, in both Susan and James’s opinions. It was all somehow made even worse by the fact that they had no idea who’d forced their children to age and skip several years of their lives.
Before James and Susan knew what was happening, the two were teenagers attending high school. Once the two became teenagers, they spent hours teaching Seth and Leah what it meant to carry on the Legacy, how important it was. Soon enough they were both dedicated to the idea, both working against each other to become the potential heir.
One day, Leah brought a friend home from school. His name was Maverick.
Seth was immediately suspicious, making many excuses to enter the same room as them and make sure Leah hadn’t found a potential spouse before he had.
“So Maverick,” Leah drawled. “I know we haven’t talked much at school before this, so how’s the home life for you?”
Maverick shrugged awkwardly. “Fine, I guess?”
Leah rolled her eyes and leaned across the table to get closer to Maverick. “Alright, listen up, pretty boy. A conversation is a two way street, if you’re not going to say anything, I won’t either.”
Maverick nodded quickly, and Leah leaned back in her chair again.
“School blows, doesn’t it Maverick?” Leah sighed. “There’s so many other things I could be spending my time on.”
“Yeah, it's pretty challenging,” Maverick squeaked.
“Try competing with your older brother to become the next heir in your legacy.”
Maverick didn’t respond again.
“Alright, I get it, I come off pretty intense,” Leah sighed. “I’ve been told that all my life. Just… listen, I’m going to level with you here. I wouldn’t invite you over if I wasn’t genuinely interested.”
Maverick’s eyes widened.
“I’m going to need to find a man eventually because I will be the next heir. And trust me, guys line up to marry into a legacy family so you are very replaceable,” Leah went on. "Therefore, don't disappoint me. Got it?"
Leah pushed back her chair, and stood up, not realizing the full impact of what she’d just said. “Anyway, I’m going to grab a snack. I’ll be back.”
Leah left the room, leaving Maverick sitting in the office completely stunned. Walking into the kitchen, she encountered Seth sitting there, waiting for her. “Hey Leah,” he nodded.
“What’s up Seth?”
“So who is he? Friend or potential lover?”
Leah rolled her eyes. “Like I’d tell you. Just go wander off somewhere and bring home someone of your own.”
Seth stormed out of the room, and Leah let out a small chuckle and started to dig in the fridge for something to eat. What she didn’t know was that Seth was headed directly for the office she’d left Maverick in.
Seth threw open the door and sat across the table from Maverick.
“Seth?” Maverick asked. He recognized him from school.
“Leah’s dumb to think I wasn’t listening in to what you two were saying. Do you know what my response is going to be?” Seth asked.
Maverick shook his head.
Seth sighed, got up from the table, took Maverick, and kissed him.
Maverick pushed him away after a second. “Seth, man, you’re cool but I’m pretty sure I don’t swing that way.”
Seth shrugged. “I don’t either. But I could… just to keep Leah from finding her man and take one of my own in the process.”
Seth smiled suggestively at Maverick, then left the room. Maverick was again left completely stunned. The Mai siblings were definitely intense. More intense then he could have ever imagined.
